Aims and scope

Health & New Media Research (HNMR) aims to identify and explain newly emerging health communication phenomena that occur across various types of new media. HNMR focuses on the roles of new media (Internet, mobile devices, games, and virtual reality) in public and environmental health to advance scholarly discoveries and real-world solutions. Articles feature research on the following topics:

  • - New media such as Internet, mobile phones, games, smart devices in public/environmental health;
  • - Interactivity and virtuality in healthcare;
  • - New media and interactive health communication;
  • - Information communication technology in public health;
  • - Health risks and new media;
  • - Inequalities of using new technology;
  • - Health education and public/environmental health involving new media;
  • - Other issues related to health and new/digital media;

We welcome scholars and practitioners in the fields of communication, psychology, sociology, public health, and related fields to submit original research findings. Scholarship that tests theory, extends knowledge, and/or fosters innovative perspectives on issues of importance to interdisciplinary research is particularly encouraged.

Peer Review Policy: All articles in the journal will undergo both editorial and anonymous double-blind peer review.
